Strength Through Service: Combining Psychology and the Military to Make a Difference by Christina - August 2025 Scholarship Essay
As I enter this new school year, my primary goal is to continue building a strong foundation in psychology while preparing to join the military. I’ve always believed in serving a greater purpose, and the structure, discipline, and sense of mission that come with military service align with my personal values. I want to use my education not only to succeed in a career but also to support others—especially those facing mental, emotional, or psychological challenges.
Pursuing a career in the military alongside a background in psychology means more to me than simply having a job. I want to be someone who others can turn to in difficult times. Many service members deal with trauma, anxiety, or the emotional toll of duty, and I feel called to be there for them—not just as a fellow soldier, but as someone trained to help. My goal is to eventually work in a role that allows me to support mental health within the military, whether through counseling, crisis response, or peer support programs.
What motivates me most is the idea of purpose—the drive to become someone who makes a real difference. I have faced personal challenges, and those experiences have taught me the value of empathy, strength, and consistency. I want to take those lessons and turn them into a force for good.
Being part of my church has also shaped my perspective. It has taught me the importance of community, compassion, and service. These values are what push me forward in both my academic and personal journey.
This school year, I am focused, motivated, and ready to grow. I know the road ahead won’t always be easy, but I am determined to succeed—not just for myself, but for the people I’ll be able to help in the future. Whether in the classroom or on the field, I want to serve, support, and stand beside others in a way that truly matters.
