Feedback Leads to Growth by Bethany - August 2026 Scholarship Essay

In my spare time, I've done a lot of volunteering and public work. I enjoy guiding new students and figuring out the best way to complete the job. I was a Scholar and Student Ambassador for Carl Albert State College, and worked the student events during the school year. Each of these events has helped me grow in my communication skills. As a Student Ambassador for CASC, we had to give tours to incoming students. Each one-on-one or group tour gave me a chance to reflect on my personal communication skills. I gained more confidence, and went on to participate in Miss CASC. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and was given real feedback on how I presented myself as a person. I learned to be disciplined, self-reliant, and confident. I remember walking into the Miss CASC interview and facing six cut-throat judges, ready to find the perfect candidate. At the time, I was nervous and unsure of myself. I was thrown off by a question and lost my way. I was disappointed This led to a lot of reflection on my goals, how I was to reach them, and how I could connect with people along the way. I never thought I would be who I am today, but the feedback I was given caused me to pause, reflect, and grow into a better person. Feedback can be pivotal in someone's process to growth. Kind, direct feedback can be the greatest tool in our kit.
