Treating Every Week Like a Short Season by Amisha - September 2026 Scholarship Essay

The method that changed school for me is treating every week like a short season. After my parents divorced, nobody was going to track my assignments for me. I started listing the week's work on Sunday night: tests, essays, practices, and volunteer shifts. Then I worked in small blocks instead of one long night.

When I moved from Mystic Valley Regional Charter School to Arlington Catholic after ninth grade, that list is how I caught up in a new building. New teachers, new honors classes, and a new commute from Malden. I wrote down what was due, what I did not understand yet, and when I could ask for help. I still use it for AP Literature, AP Psychology, Honors Forensic Science, Honors Statistics, and cheer.

If something is hard, I ask the teacher that week, not after the grade posts. That habit saved me in classes where I was not the strongest student at first. I would rather look unprepared in a conversation than stay lost on a quiz.

The same weekly plan keeps room for other people. I am president of Connor's Kindness Club, an officer in Model UN, and I volunteer with United India Association, Bread of Life, and Vision Aid. Without a list, those things would collide with homework. With one, I can be a student and still show up.

It is not fancy. It is how I stay in school, stay kind, and keep moving toward college.
