The Impact by Amara - December 2025 Scholarship Essay

If I was elected as student body president at my school, I would hope to make a positive impact in many ways. The first order of business would be increasing mental health awareness at my school, ensuring all students feel supported and understood. I don't want any student feeling embarrassed or hopeless about their mental health. I could achieve this by putting up signs with information about the mental health resources available to the students, speaking out about my story and mental health struggle, and attempting to be there for all the students. I would hope no student feels like they are battling the triumph that is high school alone. I would do this by hosting many community events, potlucks, crafts, and movie nights. Building the school to have more of a community would be one of my top priorities. Spreading kindness, and ensuring students have people around them is a difficult but important task. I would also like to create reward systems for students who may struggle with the mass amount of work many of us high schoolers must deal with. Things like homework passes, late passes, and extended lunch times are all things i believe we could use in schools to help motivate students to keep trying their best. I would like to make a impact not just in school, but in the students' lives. I would aim for a student to feel content not just in school but when they get home. I want to teach students to view school as less of a backbreaking burden and instead as a learning opportunity. I know I could do this by making school more enjoyable, supportive, and building a good community in our schools.
