Amplifying My Goals by Alric - August 2025 Scholarship Essay
As I enter my junior year at California State University Dominguez Hills, having recently transferred from Long Beach City College, my aspirations for the upcoming school year center on academic excellence, technical mastery, and building a strong professional network in the field of audio engineering. This year is a turning point in my journey toward becoming a music producer who blends artistry and technology to create sound experiences that inspire and innovate.
My first goal is to deepen my expertise in the technical aspects of audio production. My Digital Media Arts degree with an emphasis in Audio Engineering includes coursework in digital signal processing, live sound reinforcement, and sound design for film. I aim to excel in each class by mastering both the practical skills and the underlying STEM principles that make professional-quality sound possible. By the end of the year, I plan to create a portfolio of original compositions, mixed and mastered to industry standards, that showcase my ability to combine classical music training with modern digital tools.
Another aspiration is to take advantage of collaborative opportunities. I intend to work with classmates, faculty, and local artists on projects ranging from music production to podcast editing and live event sound engineering. These experiences will help me apply classroom learning in real-world settings, strengthen my problem-solving skills, and build connections that can support my career after graduation. My goal is to complete at least two major collaborative projects this year.
I am also motivated to explore how audio engineering can make a social impact beyond entertainment. This year, I will research sound-based tools for accessibility, such as audio navigation systems for individuals with visual impairments, and explore immersive soundscapes that enhance learning environments. These projects will allow me to align my technical skills with my passion for making a difference.
My motivation comes from a lifelong connection to music. I began playing violin in elementary school, transitioned to viola in middle school, and performed in my high school’s advanced orchestra while also playing varsity football. These experiences taught me discipline, resilience, and teamwork—qualities I now apply to my studies as a full-time student.
I am also driven by the competitive nature of the entertainment industry. I know that to succeed, I must excel both artistically and technically. That challenge inspires me to push beyond my comfort zone—whether I am learning new software, experimenting with AI-assisted production, or solving complex audio problems.
Most of all, I am motivated by the belief that sound is a universal language that can connect, inspire, and transform. This year, I will work toward mastering the science and art of audio so I can create work that resonates with people and leaves a lasting impact.
