My future by Alia - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

My name is Alia De Los Santos and I am a rising junior from Long Island, NY. This school year my goals are to earn a 4 in both of my AP level classes and receive a 90 or above on all of my regents. I am challenging myself this year by taking AP US history and AP Research. Last year I took AP world and received a 2 which is pushing me to study triple the amount for this upcoming school year. My parents are my biggest inspirations to make me the best I can be. I believe I owe it to myself and them to reach my full potential. My dream is to attend the University of Michigan because of their well known high academic standards and amazing student life. Unfortunately, the price of the school is the biggest restraint which is why setting goals for myself this school year is motivating me. I hope I can receive scholarships if I keep pushing myself academically. Growing up on Long Island everyone has a tendency to know one another as kids living in close proximity towns. When I receive the opportunity to attend a large school I can’t wait to expand my connections for my future. I plan on studying optometry after I graduate college and another reason why my dream school is umich is because unlike many other schools they offer a 7 year optometry program allowing me to graduate with less student debt.
