People Finder by Addison - June 2026 Scholarship Essay

In order to improve the community at my high school, I would introduced a product called the people finder. I feel like a lot of high schools, including mine have cliques that often leave students out and make students judge others without knowing them. If students got to know one another in their grade better, I believe that the learning environment would be improved and allow students to feel more welcome. The People Finder would be able to help resolve this situation. This would be an app that students download onto their phone and enter which school they go to. Once they have that entered, they put in their name, grade, three facts about themselves, three hobbies, and upload a picture. Then once a week the app randomly generates and pairs two students together with similar hobbies and they have lunch or breakfast together at some point throughout the week. The goal of this app is to meet new people, possibly leading to finding new friends and widening your circle. This could also help students with communication skills, boost confidence, and make a stronger sense of belonging in the learning environment. By encouraging students to get out of their comfort zone and interact with people they normally don't, this app could break down social barriers and make the school community more tight nit and inclusive.
