What are you struggling with? That's the first question I ask new students in our first session together. Understanding the unique problems and bad habits facing a student is the first step in creating a customized learning plan to help get over those hurdles.Growing up with severe ADHD, I learned firsthand how vital it is to create a learning process which treats the student as an individual, tailored to their strengths, habits, and weaknesses. Over many frustrating years, I learned how to create a personal curriculum for myself, which in turn has taught me how to do the same for my students.I focus on conceptual understanding and pattern recognition in all of my sessions, rather than "tricks" or rote memorization. These skills require practice, but they are absolutely critical to building a strong foundation for future learning. That's why I go to the effort to include background information and explain the lower levels of abstraction that so often make the difference between memorizing *facts* and learning *skills.*This focused approach enabled me to place in the 99th percentile nationwide on the PSAT and SAT, win the title of National Merit Scholar, and earn a full-ride merit scholarship to one of the largest schools in the country, all despite my learning difficulties. There I am currently a senior in the Honors program, on track to graduate summa cum laude, and approaching completion of an undergraduate thesis on my work in the university's nanotechnology lab. These opportunities have unambiguously changed my life, and I'm always happy to help more young minds reach their goals. Examples of my teaching experience include two semesters of tutoring at the high-school level and three semesters as a paid teaching assistant for my university. I teach a wide variety of subjects, including math, essay writing, critical thinking, biochemistry, and object-oriented programming.Outside of the classroom and lab, I love to play volleyball, swim, run, and meet new people! After graduation, I hope to win a US Fulbright grant to teach in rural Indonesia before pursuing a PhD in biochemistry. Learning was my first love, but teaching is my passion, and I would love to eventually become a professor and conduct research on the biochemistry of longevity. I hope the Varsity platform will allow me to have the opportunity to help more students reach their own goals in school, college, and beyond!

I am currently a 2nd year PhD student in Biomedical Sciences (Infectious Diseases) at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL. I am currently performing my dissertation work in Dr. Herve Roy's lab where we focus on characterizing a tRNA dependent pathway for lipid modification that is conserved in bacteria and is a cause of increased antimicrobial resistance in many pathogens. I have been involved in higher level education (both undergraduate and graduate) for over 8 years now. Through my own successes and particularly my failures (yes I've had my fair share) in courses I've taken throughout my career, I am very aware of what it takes to be a successful student in various subject areas.

Hello! My name is Anna Grace and I am a Senior undergraduate student majoring in Exercise Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, graduating December 2021. Currently, I am working towards my EP-C Certification through the ACSM as well as working as a clinical intern for Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and have completely immersed myself in healthcare. In addition to a 340-hour internship, I am currently shadowing 6-12 hours per week with the Occupational Therapy Department at CVMC. Both of these amazing experiences allow to me grow in my current patient care, clinical, and transferable skills as well as providing a foundation for career opportunities directly following graduation and while continuing my education. Following graduation, my current goal is to apply to a graduate program in Occupational Therapy by Winter 2021.

I am a graduate of University of Florida in Health Science Education. I served the United States Navy for 8 years as a Nuclear Electronic Technician. I have three beautiful children, and they are the reason I am tutoring so that I can have a flexible schedule and be there for them.I have been tutoring since I was in 5th grade. I love tutoring children, but I started to love tutoring adults while in the navy and at Valencia Community College. I love helping people and I get such a thrill when people come to me because they are having a hard time understanding various concepts in class and leave with a smile on their face because they finally understand. I love explaining complex things in simple concepts, and I look forward to tutoring you.

I believe that learning should be a fun and interactive experience. Having a vast array of experience in different educational platforms myself, one factor remains the same; students want to enjoy learning. In order for that process to take place, I like to be creative in the lesson and promote higher-order thinking. Rote memorization is not the key to overall content comprehension but rather the ability to understand the topic in a meaningful way in order to apply it in a real world platform' that is the success that I seek from the student- teacher mentorship.A little about me:In my free time I enjoy reading philosophy and writing my own political dissertations about currentpolitics. I am currently attempting my hand at screenplay writing and often play tennis. I like to be outdoors where I can enjoy the great parks and fresh springs around Orlando, FL.

"The most important need, as humans, that we have is love and belonging, a close connection with the people we care about is a requisite for satisfying all of the needs we have", (William Glasser). I absolutely love being a teacher. I love helping children feel that they belong and are cared for. I want them to know that they have the power to survive a math, English, or science class with effort on their part and, it can be a fun experience. With over 2 decades of experience, you will see growth working with me.
