I have been officially teaching in the New Jersey school system for 5 years. I started in Jersey City, then Newark, and I'm now in Linden and loving it. I have taught Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and now I am teaching 4th grade mathematics only due to our district departmentalizing.I graduated from the University of Tampa with a B.A in Sociology and to be honest I still had no idea what to do with my life until I was offered the amazing opportunity to teach English for one year in South Korea. I jumped on it and realized that teaching was for me. I finally felt like I was living my life with purpose and doing something positive. As soon as I returned I enrolled in the graduate teaching program at NJCU and completed that in two years with a 4.0 GPA. . During that time, I also received my Yoga teaching training certification with a specialized focus on kid/teen yoga and the positive effects it brings to the school environment. Additionally, during my grad years, I volunteered as a literacy tutor at the Jersey City Public Library.While in Korea, I began a pen pal program between my Korean students and students here in NJ to promote cultural awareness as well as promoting a fun opportunity to practice their English skills.During my 1st year as a certified NJ teacher, I started a school wide yoga program that I was able to get fully funded though grant writing and networking.
