I am currently enrolled in a Masters of Education program at the University of Arizona. I am looking to use my experience from the past 16 years to enact broader change within Arizona's educational system. During my time in the classroom, I have worked with multiple age groups, in various settings. I began as a P.E.Teacher in Chinle, in northern Arizona. I loved working with K-3 students at Chinle Primary School, and went through Prescott College's Adult Degree Program to become certified to teach K-8 in the state of Arizona. My future wife and I moved to Tucson and I taught for TUSD as an 8th grade math/art teacher, as a 3rd, then 4th, then 5th grade classroom teacher. Later I moved to a private school and was a 5th grade teacher at Green Fields and a 4th-6th grade collaborator at the IDEA School.I enjoy being part of the learning process. Even when I was an 18 year old undergraduate at the UofA searching for a suitable major, I worked part-time as a Water Safety Instructor for the City of Tucson and taught people how to swim. Helping someone learn something new is great! I do not pretend to know everything, but I sure can find a way to learn what I need and I try to take this attitude into my work with students. Everyone is a unique learner and it is my job to help find the best way for students to access skills/subjects that they are required to. I strive to develop a personal relationship with those that I work with to help me to get to know their learning style.Much of my experience as a teacher is in the elementary classroom, however I have been an interscholastics coach for HS students. I have been a University of Texas at El Paso School of Nursing faculty member for fifteen years in both the RN to BSN and traditional programs. Before starting at UTEP, I worked med-surge and cardiac drug research for several years. I then moved into Quality Management and bariatric surgery. My areas of interest include chronic illnesses, mindfulness and stress, renal, and currently COVID-19.I am board-certified Holistic Nurse, Nurse Educator, and a Plane Tree Fellow. I was inducted into the Global Academy of Holistic Nursing this summer. I am also certified as a Mindfulness Life Coach, Meditation Guide, Reiki Master, Yoga Instructor, and Certified in Capacitar.

I have found that finance is not a subject that many students have had much exposure to in the past. I chose a career in finance because I find it to be a very important, challenging and rewarding occupation. I have worked in the investment management and financial planning industry for 25 years. I currently work for a Registered Investment Advisory (RIA) firm that handles complex client relationships. I have also been an adjunct university finance professor for 9 years that taught master's and undergraduate finance classes. I received my MBA from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO. I received my bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in psychology from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. I do hold the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. I have also been a grader of the level III CFA exam many times. I also am a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). I do enjoy tutoring investment management, corporate finance and financial planning. I believe finance is an art form that may not always have one answer. My style is one of calmness and patience with students. I may not always have the answer right away but will get it. I do also believe the basics are completely understood before we move on to more complex topics.

I graduated with a Master's degree in Deaf Education in 2004 from The University of Arizona and earned my Bachelor's degree from the University of California at San Diego and at The University of Toulouse Le Mirail in the south of France in 1998. I am a certified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing and have taught at a center school for the deaf and in the public school setting as a classroom teacher and as an itinerant teacher. I completed a doctoral student externship at The University of Kansas in 2012 and my research focus is on the development of self-determination for students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. I have supervised graduate and undergraduate students at The University of Arizona and have tutored students in various subjects but really enjoy the Social Sciences and Linguistics areas. My tutoring philosophy evolved from my years of teaching experience. As I reflect on my beliefs regarding teaching and learning, I find that my mission as a tutor is threefold: to promote positive learning, to spark learner enthusiasm for learning, to provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
