After completing a four-year tour of service in the United States Marine Corps, I completed college with a major in applied mathematics. In my first job, I used mathematics to develop quality assurance models for a medical equipment manufacturer. As time progressed, I found great joy in helping others understand the mathematics and what the language is conveying. After a few years, I found my calling to become a teacher and obtained my Teacher Certification in Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science. While serving as a high school mathematics teacher, I furthered my pedagogical knowledge by completing a master's degree from Columbia University in mathematics education. I served as a teacher of math and science for the next 20 years. The national data showed that only one fifth of the students pursuing a STEM degree were able to complete their STEM degree. The major obstacle seemed to be mathematics. I responded to the call to action, college students needed good teaching and encouragement to complete their math studies. I made the transition to teaching college mathematics and statistics.
I now have a doctorate in teaching and learning mathematics. My further studies have focused on distance and online learning with an emphasis on mathematics literacy and creating well-designed online learning environments. I have completed Quality Matters certifications and have served as an online mathematics and Statistics professor and Peer Reviewer since 2018, adept at reviewing high quality online courses in an ever-changing environment. I'm honored and excited to use my skills as a tutor to help students achieve their goals.
