I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1989. I worked as an RN in med-surg, rehab and public health while I worked to receive my Master of Science in Maternal-Infant Nursing from the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) and became a Certified Women's Health Nurse Practitioner in 1993. I worked in outpatient OB/GYN for several years and returned for a Post-Graduate Certificate in Family Health from UAB and became certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2000. I have practiced in primary care, pediatrics, public health, convenient health care, corporate health, and management. In 2014 I passed the certification exam to become a Certified Medical Examiner for the Dept of Transportation. Since 2016 I have been working part-time as a traveling FNP, licensed in 15 states. I am most passionate about nursing and nurses. I was very fortunate to have had the benefit of older nurses and nurse practitioners teaching me. I look forward to opportunities to do the same for people becoming nurses and NPs.
I know the value of education in improving quality of life, and too often the current processes in education and testing have become a barrier for students. I want to help those who want to become nurses and NPs overcome these barriers.
