About Me

I am a registered nurse in Central Texas with a unique academic and professional background: I earned my Bachelor's and Master's in history in 1999 and 2001, respectively. From 2002 to 2014, I taught introductory American History courses at the local community college. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2014 and my Master of Science in Nursing Education in 2019. Between 2014 and 2020, I worked in a variety of roles - as a staff nurse in the Cardiovascular ICU and Progressive Care Unit, and later as a nursing supervisor, manager, and clinical educator. All the while, the classroom was calling me back to academia. I missed that connection with my students, so I became a nurse educator in 2019. It felt amazing to help aspiring and new nurses meet their potential. Helping students connect with a subject that many of them struggled with was an absolute joy. As the pandemic raged on, I felt a pull back toward the bedside, so I became a staff nurse again in October 2021. I started tutoring as a way to continue helping students while also caring for patients. I take a holistic approach to tutoring NCLEX. I spend time getting to know my students: what they struggle with, how they've prepared in the past, where they'd like to focus their energy and time, and how they handle test anxiety. I then develop a tutoring plan to meet each person's individual needs. I teach content review, testing strategies, and in-the-moment stress-reduction techniques to help my students feel prepared as they go into the testing center.
