I believe that community care is one of the foundations for growth. Having been supported by my family and friends throughout my life, I know that I wouldn't be the person I am without their support. Through them, I was taught to always give when I have the means and I believe that is seen through my work as an educator.
I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in the subjects of Creative Writing and Film Studies. Currently, I am in the process of applying to graduate schools to study Art Therapy and become a professional Youth Art Therapist as I believe that early intervention and an increased focus on mental health and wellness, can lead to healthier, more communicative, emotionally mature individuals.
As an educator, I believe that knowledge of a subject isn't solely what's important. Rather than simply fostering "knowing" in my students, I intend to focus on giving students the tools and skills needed to strengthen their understanding of a subject. By working with a growth mindset, I can meet students where they are and work with them to help raise their understanding. I believe that highlighting student strengths, understanding their learning style, and making the material more relatable helps to foster a better understanding of the subject matter at hand.
