I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University with a concentration in Literature and Writing. In the many years between then and now I have worked in several different industries but always stayed very close to the education arena before finally entering education as a career. I come from a family of teachers, both at the elementary, middle school, and college levels and so education has always been a priority for me. I've taught Christian Education, remedial writing to adults, and introductory computer skills to children and adults when desktop computers were just beginning to be commonplace in schools and in people's homes. I've been a private high school administrator and mentor/coordinator for several high school clubs. I've interacted with students from all over the world while working in the high school because we accepted an international enrollment and had a robust foreign exchange/study abroad program, so we always had students from Asia, Europe, South America, and Africa on our campus. I'm currently a teaching assistant for that same high school where I assist the Humanities department by grading papers, reviewing essays, etc. I am a certified ESL online instructor for students that live overseas. I'm most proud of the fact that I also home-schooled my own two children for a couple of years and they both went on to attend top-rated colleges (Cornell University and Mercer University).
The subjects I tutor are ESL, reading, writing, basic language arts skills, and History. I believe the ability to communicate well is integral in today's society. Both native and non-native English speakers need good English speaking and writing skills to reach their goals and find success in their lives.
Education & Certification
Undergraduate Degree: Columbia University in the City of New York - Bachelor in Arts, General Literature
In my leisure time, I read, read, read. I’m also addicted to online and recorded college course programs like The Great Courses and Coursera. My favorite subjects to study are English and History, but I can nerd out to science, philosophy, psychology, etc. as well. I’m also trying to be more consistent with my workouts (walking, yoga, dancing). Wish me luck with that.
