I am a graduate of the University of Kansas with a B.A. in Japanese Language and Literature. I also have a lot of experience teaching English as a second language. Having a military background I have traveled extensively which has helped improve my cultural sensitivity. I have tutored students in Japanese, reading, and ESL. My favorite subject by far is Japanese Language and Literature. I studied abroad in Japan during my sophomore year in college and that put a lot of the cultural information I was learning into perspective. I love to break up common myths about cultures. What I love most about teaching culture and language is that it really opens and broadens people's perspective. I agree with the statement that knowledge is power. Knowledge is only powerful when you know how to apply what you have learned. As such, my teaching style is very active, particularly when it comes to language!
