I retired from Miami-Dade Public Schools four years ago after eight years of teaching math at the High School and Middle School level. I miss the feeling of witnessing comprehension over coming a student struggling with a concept or problem as the student becomes aware that this thing can be understood and conquered. That is the greatest joy I experienced as a math teacher, probably the greatest thing I miss about teaching. I am looking forward to experiencing many more moments of assisting students to fight through the riddle of the problem to understand that this isn't so difficult after all.
Before teaching, I had versatile career. After receiving a masters of finance and passing the CPA exam, my first job was with Laventhal & Horwath CPA as a tax and financial consultant, after which I left for portfolio management and investment banking before becoming a mathematics teacher.
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy biking, canoeing, and hiking. I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail, my longest hike from Georgia to Maine, but I enjoy many weeks of hiking every year on The Florida Trail and interesting trails throughout this country enjoying all that nature has to offer. Hiking and teaching are my two loves aside from my wife, Lene.
