About Me

My interest in tutoring dates back to my years in high school, where I excelled in Spanish, English and Biology. As a senior student I tutored my fellow classmates for college entry exams. Later, at nursing school, I continued my tutoring, this time the focus was in ALL nursing subjects. It was clear to me that I would pursue a career in education. Nine years later, I had completed a Masters in Advanced Nursing Education at the University of West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica. Within this fascinating world of Education, I have developed a special interest in teaching /learning strategies. My initial focus is to know the type of learner I will be working with, then and based on that I shape the content to be delivered. If the student has not been able to identify his/her learning style(s), I help with that as well. What follows is a series of strategies to keep my students motivated, challenging their curiosity lesson after lesson. During my years of experience I have had the opportunity to be exposed to a great range of cultural diversity: students from Cuba, then Jamaica, and now USA. I find it extremely valuable as they have impacted my vision as educator and furthermore, they have shaped my style. Today I feel thrilled to share my expertise with new students at Varsity Tutors.
