Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I am a very patient teacher. Every student has a different learning level. I believe patience and encouragement are the key to each student's success.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I will ask them several questions so that I can evaluate their learning level and their interest in the subject.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

The best way to motivate a student into learning on their own accord is to find topics within the subject that will pique the student's interest.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I will use easier material that we have used in previous lessons to show the student how much they have improved compared to when they first started.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I will try different ways to teach the student so that they can absorb the material easier.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Visual learning (drawings, props) is one of the best way to help students who are struggling with reading comprehension.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I will use real-world examples that relate to the subject to keep and further increase the student's interest.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I will have the student review some of the previous lesson's material, and let the student know how much he/she has improved since they have started.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I normally prepare several questions to ask the student as well as a beginner's book to evaluate the student's needs and level in the subject.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Depending on the student's learning level and method, I will choose the best teaching style and materials that will help the student absorb the best.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I will do a little test at the end of each lesson to make sure the student understands the material.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I normally use story books and newspapers, depending on the student's level.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Drawing and storytelling are the most successful ways I found when working with a student.
