How can you help a student become an independent learner?

First, I would need to figure out the area that is causing the student to struggle. Once that is done, I would teach the student the strategies needed to be successful in those areas.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would introduce myself and tell the student a little about me. Then, I would ask the student to do the same. I would ask the student about what they expect to get out of our tutoring sessions.
