Dynamic educator with a wide range of experience, education and knowledge ready to help you succeed!
I'm a teacher with experience working with people of all ages. As a youth when I was playing teacher to my younger siblings, I knew that I would grow up to be an educator. As a high school student participating in the school service program, I helped an elementary student with improving his reading skills. These early experiences, watching the excitement of others as they learned something new, solidified my decision to become a teacher.
Throughout my college career, I helped numerous classmates - many who were new learners of English -- with exam prep, editing assignments, and study skills. While earning my A.A.S. degree in Secretarial Science/Office Administration, I gained useful skills that enabled me to subsequently work as a medical transcriptionist and administrative assistant at the admissions office of a large, urban university. If you're interested in earning your college degree, I can show you some strategies for success for getting into the college of your choice and doing well while there!
While training to become a teacher, I completed hundreds of hours of teaching internships, observations, child study projects, and clinical work. My training involved after school homework help for middle school students, speech therapy for elementary age students, and clinical speech services for adults and children. After graduating summa cum laude with a B.S. degree in Teaching Students with Speech and Hearing Handicaps (K-12), which enabled me to earn a teaching certificate (Teaching Students with Speech and Language Disabilities). I went on to complete 27 credits of a M.S. in Speech Language Pathology, while working as a graduate assistant. I have completed a tutor training program that enables me to work with adult learners who are interested in building their literacy or English as another language skills.
I worked as a speech services provider in an integrated Headstart program working with children from the ages of 3 to 5. I worked for the New York City Department of Education as a per diem teacher for special needs, learning disabled and general education students. As a speech improvement teacher, I worked in alternative learning center helping students with behavioral and speech issues.
With training in public speaking and as a member of the SAG-AFTRA union, I am equipped to help people with developing presentation skills. If you are looking to study for a professional standardized test, I have successfully completed allied health courses, an ABA-approved paralegal program, and real estate training (licensed NY and NJ RE agent). I'll be able to assist with academic material that covers medical, legal and real estate terminology.
I truly enjoy helping others facilitate new and challenging information, while building their organization skills. Many people that I have worked with have been pleased with my dynamic teaching that allows flexibility for their learning style.
