What is your teaching philosophy?
As an Educator/Teacher in the field of Education for over 15 years, it is my sincere passion and purpose to provide children, youth, and adults with positive "keys," and create endless opportunities and possibilities towards a successful life. I want to prepare youth and adults for the next phase of their life and assist them in taking their life higher.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In my initial tutoring session, I want to build a relationship with my students. I want to open the lines of communication and have them feel comfortable with working with me. Tutoring in my opinion is a partnership, between the student and myself, and we are working together for one common goal: success. Therefore, I will spend the first 15 minutes talking to them, having a conversation about who they are and letting them know who I am; so it will be a light, but fun interview. Then we will do a few icebreaker games; this helps to relieve any tension or uneasiness.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
It is my sincere goal and mission to help all students to reach their full potential and be the best that they can be in life. In my tutoring sessions, I want to help students to become independent learners by encouraging them and praising them for the little to big accomplishments.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help students stay motivated by implementing a reward system... and for every question/ problem that they receive correct, they will get a sticker. If they receive 5 stickers, they will get an incentive or treat. The rewards will increase every session, guiding them towards a larger goal.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, it is my goal to re-teach the skill or lesson in a way that is on the child's level. I will use a variety of teaching methods to determine which one best suits the child.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I help students who are struggling with reading comprehension by having them tell me the story in their own words based on the pictures.
