With engaging and interactive lessons.

Assess the student's prior knowledge, and learn his or her needs and the way the student would like to learn.

Model ways of learning, then cooperatively do assignments with the student, and finally monitor the student's progress as they start to work independently.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Teach the concept again using a different strategy.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Start from basic sentences and move forward to more complex ones, and include vocabulary explanation.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Reading strategies.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Do hands-on activities, like brochures, booklets, etc.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Different forms of assessments.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
By encouraging the student to take ownership of their learning by successfully completing assignments that fulfill learning goals.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
In the first session, you would discuss with the student their areas of interest and needs. Additionally, a time frame should be established in order to set the desired goals of the student. The tutor would develop a written pre-test and oral questionnaire.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I would assess the particular way of learning of the student, whether that is visual, auditory, or hands-on, and accommodate and develop lesson plans accordingly.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Books, flashcards, PowerPoint, Internet, craft materials, and audio books.
