Education is the great equalizer for the next generation of youth. Nothing ensures children having limitless opportunities and the ability to live a fulfilling life in reaching their goals and dreams as with a quality education.
Not all students learn the same way at the same speed. Thus, differentiating the type of instructional techniques and methods is essential. If students are not understanding key concepts and informational skills currently, then they need a new approach that will match their unique learning style and multiple intelligence. Understanding how a child learns and what approaches they respond to is essential for a tutor. Also, understanding where the students strengths, abilities, and deficiencies are is also imperative for the tutor. Once the type of learner has been established and the level at where the student is at, the tutor then uses a tool box of techniques to match their skills and needs with the instruction.
Achievement and growth are then measured and learning rates are determined, then reflection from the tutor is used to determine if the instruction is the right type and if it is being delivered in the right way. Afterwards adjustments are made in real time. At this point a tutor will challenge the student at the highest level possible that requires so feedback and guidance from the tutor without frustrating the student too much but ensures growth and achievement results. This is my philosophy of how a tutor should work with students who need additional remediation and assistance filling in gaps of knowledge and understanding.
