Reteach the skill a different way, pre-teach vocabulary, use visual aids, or manipulatives.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Model reading strategies: think- aloud, annotating, and note taking.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Getting to know the student and their learning styles.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I engage my students by being engaged and excited about learning. I adapt my lesson accordingly to my students and their interests.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Questioning, teacher observation, informal and formal assessments.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I build students' confidence by encouraging them and giving them positive reinforcements.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Asking students questions about their academic likes and dislike, getting to know the students, observation, and data tracking.

Learning my students' learning styles, and adapting lessons accordingly.

Paper, pencil, books, computer/laptop, whiteboards, and other needed manipulatives.

To foster the development of every student, and helping each child meet their fullest potential; while providing an environment that is secure, caring, and stimulating.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
First tutoring session will basically be my student and I getting to know each other. We will do some cooperative learning activities. I want all my students to feel comfortable with me and to know I am there for them. I feel you have to reach your students before you can teach your students.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will help a student become an independent learner by teaching independent learning strategies such as, communication, thinking and problem solving, higher level questioning, and self-management skills.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By adapting the lesson to a student's learning style and by creating engaging and interesting activities.
