Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I accommodate to the learning styles of each student that I meet. It is very important to me that I understand how the student learns, so we can have an effective tutoring lesson.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

First, I would get to know the student and learn their interests. Then, I would ask them their best way of learning or improving on classroom material.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help a student become an independent learner by teaching them my practices, or procuring ways of helping them become a better student.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would try to apply the lesson to their daily life. Application to the real world seems to discourage students from applying themselves, so making that connection would, hopefully, increase motivation.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would have to change the way I was teaching them or find out what exactly they do not understand. Then, we would go over the skill or concept to make sure they understand it.
