I am a college graduate from Rockhurst University. I graduated with a BA in French/Education and I have an ESL certification. I have worked with kids in tutoring and mentoring since I was about 16 years old. I know how frustrating it can be to not understand something while it is being taught in the classroom. As a result, I can connect with most of students pretty well. I let them know right off the bat that they are not alone and they can learn the material. After that we get right to work. If there is anything else you would like to know about me just let me know.

Q & A

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

On the first tutoring session, I spend about 15 minutes getting to know the student. I find out if they are visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners. We set goals for their lessons. Afterwards, we get straight to work.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Most instances when a student is struggling with Reading Comprehension it means they are getting too much information at once and just need help sorting through it. As a tutor I would help the student break the story down into manageable parts and go through each part. At the end we would put each part together and get the whole story.
