As an educator with over 18 years of experience from Pre-Kindergarten to senior high school, I specialize in helping students make personal and real-life connections with the learning material for which they are responsible. In terms of English Language Arts, my strengths include breaking down material into comprehensible parts, helping learners to properly internalize and recollect information from text, and assisting students in expressing themselves in an interesting, articulate, and grammatically correct manner. In terms of Spanish, my strengths include making the learning of this extremely beneficial language enjoyable and interactive.

Students turn to and trust in me because I am very patient, welcoming, and highly-attuned to how individual students best learn and process information. In my presence you will feel valued, comfortable, and safe. As a former teacher and current administrator, I possess extensive knowledge relative to effective teaching and learning strategies. I have attained this knowledge from several perspectives, the most important perspective being formed from what students have shared with me over the years in terms of what elements need to be in place for them advance academically.

I hold a B.S. in Secondary Spanish Education and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration. I also hold Building Principal (PreK-12) and Superintendent certification. I have taught (high school Spanish) for the Akron Public Schools and the Columbus City Schools. I am currently serving my 14th year as an administrator for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. The students (Pre-K through senior high) whom I serve at the International Newcomers Academy at Thomas Jefferson make me laugh and be thankful daily as I watch them grow academically and develop socially.

In terms of my teaching philosophy, it is fairly simple. I believe that in the proper setting, with the proper tools, and with the necessary supports and guidance, every learner is capable of achieving personal academic success. As a tutor I will guide you through the material at hand in a manner that suits your needs and comfort level. With my guidance you will realize that you are more than capable of advancing academically.

The areas in which I'm qualified to tutor include: Spanish, levels 1-3, all elementary core content areas, all middle school core content areas, high school OGT prep, all areas, and high school ELA or social studies.

I am not experienced enough to assist with any type of math beyond the 9th grade, although, I am familiar with OGT math prep material. I am also not very experienced in science beyond the 9th grade.
