Several years ago, a friend approached me asking if I could explain a unit of chemistry to her. I spent an hour helping her decipher her notes, explaining the general concepts and showing her how to apply these concepts to her classwork. As she began completing worksheets without assistance, I found myself smiling as I saw her satisfaction at completing problems that she had declared impossible just an hour earlier. Since that session, I have found great fulfillment in spending over 100 hours tutoring to help others achieve success.
A few years later, as a freshman at Washington University in St. Louis, I consider myself a recent veteran of the AP and SAT battlegrounds. My exposure to these tests and a high school education less than a year ago has given me valuable experience in the world of modern education, a strong advantage for my students considering that I have very recent experience with the exams. This experience has taught me to apply a practical focus to my teaching that considers the importance of individualized strategies for test-taking and different courses.
My ultimate goal as a tutor is the same as that of any other teacher: to help my students achieve success and excellence. Just as an athlete or musician needs personal training to reach the next level of skill, students also need individualized training that works with their unique strengths and weaknesses. Using my experience and love for teaching, I look forward to giving students a competitive advantage to help them pave the road to their success.
