I’m a middle school teacher with over 20 years of experience in Texas Public Schools, including Pflugerville and Bastrop ISDs. I graduated from University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a Bachelor's in English and Secondary Education in 1993 and started my career teaching 6th grade reading in the Rio Grande Valley..
Since then I’ve taught Reading, Language Arts, ESL, and Journalism to students in 6th through 8th grades. For the past eleven years I’ve been an teaching struggling readers and English language learners.
I love teaching small groups of students — it lets me tailor lessons to the students' strengths and weaknesses. I incorporate student interests when choosing the texts, and check in with them to see if my strategies are working. With my experience, I’ve got an abundance of tools, strategies, and materials from which to draw to engage and assist my students.
I teach by breaking concepts into understandable chunks, so students can comprehend the parts that make up the whole. This is for everything from breaking down words to reading extended passages, to working through the writing process. It keeps students from becoming overwhelmed, and it helps them master the skills they need.
I’m looking forward to tutoring and working with your child one on one. Like every teacher, I live for the "light bulb:" that moment when a student understands a concept or skill with which she or he has been struggling.
I’d love for this to happen while working with your child.
