I would have to say that my love for languages is what makes me a great tutor. During my final two years at university, I was taking both French and Spanish classes back to back and would devote almost all of my free time to studying/helping others. I engage with the students, focus on their problem areas, and work with them to solve the issues that they're facing while trying to learn a new language. I am a Romance language nerd with a desire to become a polyglot.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I'd gauge the level of my student to see where he/she currently needs improvement. Then, I'd determine the level of commitment they have for learning the language.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Resources, resources, resources. Learning apps, books from Amazon, music, Facebook groups. There are a ton of opportunities to teach yourself, and I can provide options.
