I have been a peer tutor throughout my academic career. It is natural for me to take complex methods and distill them into more easily understood discrete steps. The method that was taught at Tennessee State University's College of Engineering reinforces a structured approach to problem solving by having the student list the problem statement, identify the known and unknown quantities, list relevant theories/equations, and provide assumptions. I have always believed that getting the right answer is secondary to understanding the material and feeling confident in the ability to apply it correctly.
