Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of the University of Kansas. I received my Liberal Arts and Science Bachelor of General Studies with an emphasis in science. While at KU I also obtained a Service Learning Certification and an Arts Engagement certification. I am currently accepted to return to KU in the summer of 2015 to obtain a second bachelors degree, a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Bioscience.
During my time at KU I worked in the Undergraduate Biology Department in the Human Anatomy Cadaver Lab and Lecture as a Student Teacher. For the human anatomy cadaver lab, along side 4-5 other student teachers, taught the lab in it's entirety. We did this by teaching each specific anatomy unit on our own cadavers to students separately. I also held office hours for the human anatomy lecture, aided students in office hours, helped write test and quiz questions, lectured to over 400 students, and graded exams. Aside from being a student teacher, I also did private tutoring for human anatomy and physiology for a year while at KU.
I tutor for human anatomy, physiology, and basic biology. Of these subjects my favorite subject to tutor is anatomy, or combined anatomy and physiology. I am very passionate about these subjects not only because of my experiences at KU, but what could be more cool than learning about subjects that apply directly to your own body. I think it is important that people have a general understanding of how their bodies are put together and work, and I take pride in being able to help others gain this knowledge. My tutoring style is very hands on and creative. I think it is important when teaching any subject to make it interactive and exciting, and I do my best to do just that. I incorporate models, fun mnemonics for memorizing material, drawing, crafting, and building with clay.
Outside of tutoring, I am very interested in community service, animals, reading, science, and the occasional binge of a netflix series. I currently am part of several community service organizations and am a dog walker in my spare time. I love to read, so currently I am reading and studying embryology and histology for the fun of it! I live with my sister and our three dogs, who I adore. My personal pup is a 4 year old yorkie named Tootsie who is my pride and joy.
