I received my BS in Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution from the University of California San Diego in 2011. I also earned a minor in English Literature. I have lived in the Bay Area for about 4 years. I moved up here from San Diego (where I grew up) to attend graduate school at San Francisco State University where I recently earned my MS in Ecology, Evolution and Conservation Biology. I did my thesis studying social behavior and disease in salamanders! In the past I have done research on everything from sea turtles to birds and bugs, and have been lucky enough to travel to lots of cool places like Thailand, Panama, and Costa Rica to work on conservation projects. Currently, I am working as field biologist doing conservation projects and research all along our local watershed. Outside of work I love outdoor activities including hiking and camping (especially with my chocolate lab, Riley). I also love to bake, craft and sew, and do yoga.
I have been tutoring for about 5 years now, working with students grades K-12 in a variety of subjects including math, science, reading comprehension and test preparation. My favorite subject to tutor is math, because when I was younger it was something that I struggled with until I got the right help. Now I like to give other students that same opportunity to reach their potential. I love helping students get excited about learning and boosting their confidence in subjects they might not have enjoyed before. When working with students I like to help them find what learning techniques are best for them. I myself am a visual learner, and I usually use this as a starting point, but I love to adapt based on students' personal needs.
