I am a graduate of Portland State University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Communication. Since graduating, I've lived in Guangzhou, China teaching English as a Second Language for a little over a year. I have a passion for art; in particular music. I've taught Music Theory and Guitar for many years, both privately and through the City of Portland at SWCC. I also love sports and have taught them in a number of different capacities. I have a great love of learning and a passion for teaching. I specialize in ESL for students who speak Mandarin and Spanish as their first language.
I would describe my teaching philosophy as flexible and patient. I understand that each learner has a certain propensity to learn how they feel most comfortable; some are visual learners while others need to do hands-on activities. I try to tailor my lessons to the strengths of my students so that they feel comfortable. I always encourage the learner to ask questions and be an active student throughout the session. I believe that education is the backbone to a healthy life, community, and makes for a better world.
In my spare time, I love to travel and write music. I play basketball every Sunday night and I love hiking and the outdoors. I love to make people laugh and I love it when people can make me laugh. I always try to make things as personal as possible. Most of all, I simply love teaching.
