Currently I am a MA/MS student at Brandeis University's Heller School of Social Policy. I graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX with a double major in International Studies and Spanish and a double minor in Geology and History. I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Zambia from January 2012-2014 as a grade 5-9 English teacher in an underprivileged school. After school, I led twice weekly test prep sessions for 9th grade. These prep classes covered topics in English, Civics, Geometry, Algebra 1 and Geography. In addition to teaching and conducting test prep, I also individually tutored elementary students in reading and phonics, and led weekly adult literacy classes.
I am a great tutor because I genuinely care about my students. Also, I have the patience, ingenuity and compassion to help the student improve in the subject they are struggling with. For example, the year prior to my arrival at the school, only 5% of the 9th grade passed on to 10th grade. However, the following year, thanks to our prep classes and the students dedication, 85% of the students passed. This dramatic improvement proves my ability to help students achieve in the classroom.
