The central dichotomy of my life has always been that of academics and the performing arts; as I have spent the last six years since graduating from Columbia University in New York auditioning and performing, I have also found myself drawn to working with kids. I have worked as a nanny and tutored kids between the ages of three and seventeen, and I feel especially qualified to work with students on the writing and verbal sections of the SAT and editing their personal statements and college essays.
As a high schooler, I was one of those students who LOVED standardized tests; I have always viewed them as an exciting way to measure progress and hone in on, not only academic skills, but also time management, organization, and maintaining a sense of personal calm. In fact, I love the entire college application process because I think of it not as an opaque, mysterious world of judgment behind closed doors, but as the first opportunity in a student's life to find the perfect fit. The combination of test scores and personal statement should be seen as a contribution to a conversation that leads to a student ending up in an environment suited to their strengths.
