I graduated from the University of Georgia in May 2012 with a master's degree in social studies education. I received my bachelor's degree in history from Emory University in 2009. I have been tutoring students in various subjects for the last 8 years. During my time at the University of Georgia I taught about 75 US history students at a local high school, as well as tutoring and teaching students in Athens-area elementary and high schools. I am currently certified to teach history, economics, geography and political science in Georgia. I have also taken courses in ESOL and gifted education.
I feel that students should have a firm understanding of the process of learning, and not just the ability to memorize random facts. Once students understand how to work through problems and find answers on their own, success in school, and in life outside of school will hopefully come more naturally. Education and learning should be a positive and enriching experience where students come to know and understand the world around them.
I have a few interests outside of education. I love running and taking my 2-year-old border collie to dog parks. I also like taking hikes and backpacking wherever there's a good trail. I enjoy learning to cook new things for my friends and family.
