Recent Tutoring Session Reviews

Tutoring review by Margaret in Oak Harbor, WA
Tonight we covered review questions from the student's online review work. We covered questions from the review involving topics of series sum notation, integrals with constants for bounds, integrals involving e^u and u-substitution, and integrals with respect to y (instead of x). He struggled with a few of the concepts involving substituting variables, but was asking some very specific questions and we honed in on what steps he was struggling with the most. We worked the problem and a simpler, sample problem for those questions. I reminded him to double check his work. Tomorrow we will go over his next review packet and answer any questions regarding the review he is working on tonight. His final is Tuesday so tomorrow night will be our last session to work together before the final.

We went over chapter 1 on functions (how to solve linear functions, how to graph and create an x/y table, how to tell if it is a function). The student is very bright and organized and did very well with word problems. His mother asked me to assign homework for him. I will start this next time I work with him after I learn a bit more about the curriculum at his school.

The student and I first reviewed an assessment that covered previous concepts related to variance analysis (including direct materials price and quantity, as well as direct labor rate and efficiency) variances. There were also two questions we analyzed related to flexible budgets (and learned that fixed overhead would remain static). We also started reviewing homework items, and the first one was related to the analysis of relevant costs concerning an outsourcing decision.

The "Bossy R," including er, ir, and or was reviewed with a particular focus on "or" via a word reading. The long e, specifically in the vowel digraphs ee and ea was introduced. These digraphs will be further practiced in our next session via phonics and reading tasks.
