I am a great tutor because I hold education to a high standard. I believe that every child should have access to a great education; if they aren't allowed that in school, then that's where tutors step in to fill their gaps with knowledge. I work hard to make sure students understand connections between topics and concepts so that they can move on to the next level within that concept. I love watching the moment the student "gets it" and feels confident within themselves when they finally realize they can do it on their own. What sets me apart from other tutors is that they tutor for a paycheck, however, my paycheck is seeing the light bulb go off in a students' head once they understand what I am teaching them. Some of the students that I've tutored have psychological hardships which makes learning a challenge for them; I make sure I work even harder to help connect the dots for them. I am a reliable tutor for your student because I am patient, work hard, produce results and never miss an appointment.

I enjoy helping students discover their talents, skills, and abilities on the path to reaching their full potential. As a child, I had to overcome many challenges in and out of school. I was successful because of supportive influences, and I wish to continue a legacy of support to others.I harbored a desire to support others in my high school years as I was a member of an organization, The Future Teachers of America. I tutored elementary children who needed extra support in reading and writing. My volunteer experience also includes tutoring adults in a literacy program. They did not know how to read or write. I have also tutored refugees from Viet Nam in their efforts to learn English as a second language. I currently have a home, in Brazil and have taught English as a second language to native Portuguese speakers. As a former elementary classroom schoolteacher, I taught migrant children with learning difficulties English with Whole Language techniques, which is a fun way to learn reading and writing. I have also taught English as a second language to students in a program who came from various Asian countries. They were new to the community college system in the United States.I have extensive experience instructing adult learners. In the field of telecommunications, I supported a call center as a documentation specialist and provided Just-In-Time training on new technology developments regarding cell phone infrastructure. I was also a learning consultant providing support to a residential billing and collections telephone call center. On the college level, I taught a variety of courses in the areas of sociology, philosophy, business administration, and doctoral dissertation development. These courses were on the associate, bachelor's, master's, and postgraduate levels. I currently give conference presentations to doctoral learners.I earned a BA in psychology and a Master of Arts in elementary education at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. I earned a Master of Arts in Organizational Development and a Doctorate Degree in Human and Organizational Systems from Fielding Graduate Institute located in Santa Barbara, California.I provide tutoring in the fields of reading and writing on elementary and college-level academic writing. My favorite subjects to teach are beginning reading and writing and while I am not formally certified to teach the subject, I like tutoring English as a second language using an emersion approach.

After obtaining an Associate's Degree in Science from Navarro College, I transferred into Texas A and M's Computer Engineering department in 2015. I am currently progressing towards my Bachelor's in this area. I tutored students while attending Navarro in Math and Science. Coincidentally, these are my favorite subjects even though that is what was in demand at the time. I seemed to flourish in these subjects when I broke theorems down into easier to understand rules, rather than always trying to apply the complicated jargon in the textbook. After implementing this into my tutoring, I noticed that it helped students feel at ease with the material. When I am not studying, I like to workout and practice overall fitness.

I am fortunate; I get to do the best job in the world. While teaching is my second career, it was always what I wanted to do.When I graduated from college, I was offered a position with my college's admissions and marketing office, where I had been working to put myself through school. It was a tremendous opportunity, and launched an eighteen-year career helping high school students make important decisions about their futures, and navigate an often complex admissions and financial aid system. I loved working with students, being around bright, engaging people, and doing work that made a difference. But each time I walked through a high school to present a workshop on writing college essays or preparing for college interviews, I was reminded of how deeply I still wanted to be in a classroom. So I took the plunge, and now spend my days teaching social studies to great students at a great school. I have taught world history, American history, sociology, psychology, economics, and even developed a high school course in teaching for students seeking a career in education. I am passionate about understanding how the past has shaped the present, and helping students recognize their critical role in protecting and preserving democracy. In addition to teaching course curricula, I work with students on writing skills, standardized test preparation, and college essays, because all of these skills will help them reach their academic goals. As a teacher, I believe that it is critical to help students develop the ability to regulate their own learning, and implement meta-cognitive strategies that will serve them in college and beyond. When I'm not teaching, I am a mom to a high school sophomore, a long-distance mom to two college students, a gardener who grows lots of organic vegetables, and an avid reader of anything historical. If I can help you in a specific subject area, or with essays, test preparation, or homework support, either face-to-face or on-line, let me know!
