Tutoring review by Mualla in Lodi, CA
This session we went over similar triangles by analyzing 3 different ways and exploring the unknown number for each side. We did a couple of the questions together, and then he was able to solve the rest by himself. Then we went over similar triangles by using SSS (side-side-side), ASA (angle-side-angle), and AAA(angle-angle-angle) postulates. At the end of our session he felt confident to take tomorrow's quiz.

Today the student and I spent the entire session prepping for his test on tangent, sine and cosine. He was nervous about the practice problems for the test and in particular using the inverse to find missing angle measures. We covered all the practice problems as well as some challenge problems and the student did very well. He doesn't trust himself, but he really does know the material. I noticed that on his last test and quiz he had some issues with the calculator and entering radicals into the calculator. So, I advised him to be mindful of how he enters things into the calculator.

Tutoring review by Barbara in Lodi, CA
We worked on the laws of sines and cosines again in this session. The student has a quiz tomorrow and wanted to practice some problems. He had worksheets that we used and he worked through when to use the law of sines, when the law of cosines, and when either would give the answer. We also talked about other trigonometric formulas and properties (Pythagorean theorem, sum of interior angles) that are helpful. I stressed that it is always helpful to draw a diagram of the triangle being solved so that he can keep track of the given information. He understands the subject well and knows how to work the problems.

Tutoring review by Joanna in Lodi, CA
The student and I did a partial review of the first chapter of this year's math (functions), as she is taking a test on the subject next week. There are parts that take some hints for her to get her memory working, but again, she is tending to catch most of her mistakes (usually centered around +/- signs). I also explained some algebra concepts to her, linking them to basic concepts like fractions. Once she understood that although there was a variable, the math still worked the same way, she seemed to appreciate it, stating that "no one had ever explained that to her like that before." I encouraged her to ask more questions if she was simply memorizing so we can build her foundation.

Tutoring review by Hua in Lodi, CA
We reviewed vocabulary and phonics in Lesson 4 in the textbook. We learned new words and reviewed what they know already. We will continue from there next session. We went through 50 flash cards. I encouraged them to use Chinese as much as possible during class. We went through words about numbers, colors, fruits, and animals. We sang a song about ''twinkle twinkle little star'' in Chinese and another song about ''going to school'' in Chinese. I gave them each a sheet to practice writing characters. We watched a video ''Little Rabbit'' in Chinese, then I asked them questions regarding the story; and we listened and sang along to ''the color song'' in Chinese too.
