About Me
Because I love learning in a formal setting, I have attended school everywhere we were stationed (13 institutions!). My nursing degrees are from Univ of North FL and Univ of FL. I am working on an EdD degree in Curriculum and Instruction Development .My area of concentration is Nurse Midwifery. I LOVED delivering babies and becoming a part of the families I cared for. I believed I would be serving as a Midwife until I retired. But, early in my career, I had the opportunity to teach: APRN students, residents, LPN, ADN, and BSN students..... and I was hooked. To the core, I am a learner. I am thrilled by finding out new things about the world and having a weighty discussion about some interesting topics. But I find that teaching provides the same joy as does delivering babies and learning about String Theory. I know you are here because you need help of some kind. So, what kind of "fit" will I be for you? What philosophies guide what I do? First, I believe there are no stupid questions. If you need to know something, you should feel free to ask. But, by the same token, I don't provide easy answers (at least, I try not to). You need to be an active participant in the process. I may ask questions, such as: What DO you know about the topic? What confuses you? How did you arrive at the decision to give your patient another PRN dose of medication? What do the labs tell you about the patient? What action is safer? Why did you choose the answer you did, correct or incorrect? I provide new perspectives, different ways to look at a bit of information, strategies to help you arrive at the important information. I may use analogies and stories or some other seemingly unrelated technique to move forward. Whatever I use, there is an intended purpose. I know you have been working hard already. You want to be successful but you just don't understand why you can't figure it out. It's like a car, revving the engine in the driveway. There's a lot of work going on but you're not getting anywhere (one of my analogies!). And that is where I come in....I find encouragement and supportive discussions are most helpful in discovering the information you need. I love it when I am able to help you "turn the light on." That is my plan- Meet you where you are and walk with you through the process to get where you need to be.
Hobbies & Interests
I am a CRAFTER- and one of my favorite places is my craft room. There are a gazillion plastic shoe boxes, labeled with the supplies they hold: beads, fabric, flowers, tools, yarn, paint, brushes, books, old card fronts, lots of glues and glitter, feathered boas, and so much more! It is thrilling to walk through the door and know that some creative experience is at my fingertips.
