I graduated from IUPUI (Indianapolis University-Purdue University Indianapolis) with a degree in Pure Mathematics in the spring of 2015. I am currently enrolled in the Applied Statistics graduate degree program at IUPUI, which I plan to finish by the spring of 2017. I have been a tutor for about three years now, tutoring friends as well as other clients by word of mouth. I have been a substitute teacher since the fall of 2015 which has given me plenty of experience in learning how to motivate different types of students. I am qualified to tutor nearly all math subjects. In the past, I have tutored Algebra I and II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus. I love to tutor Pre-Calculus and Calculus because I find it exciting when students are able to grasp the more difficult topics in mathematics. When tutoring students, I like to encourage them to think for themselves. I have found that critical thinking is the most vital skill in understanding mathematics. To encourage this kind of thinking, I like to ask as many questions as possible and take a hands-off approach so that the student has time to process the information before giving them any answers. Additionally, I think that students need to enjoy their time with the tutor in order to gain an enthusiasm for the subject. Thus, fun is also an integral part of my teaching philosophyIn my spare time I love to play piano, guitar, and drums. I have been interested in music from a young age and it takes up most of my free time. As a Christian, I am heavily involved in my church activities. Since our church's youth pastor left to teach in the Dominican Republic, I have been co-leading our youth group for a few months now.
