I have recently graduated with a Graduation Highest Honors award from University of California, Merced with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Psychology. I hope to pursue my education in a healthcare-related field. Besides maintaining my academic excellence, I also worked in a research laboratory for one and a half years where I developed my passion for science and improved my interpersonal skills. Throughout my college years, I have enjoyed helping my peers in understanding study materials and approaching problems. As a result, I learned how to be engaging and supportive. Moreover, knowing that my contribution helps the others learn the material is very rewarding, and it motivates me to continue helping others.Although I am a science major, I enjoy math as well. It may look daunting, but it is doable. Sometimes it takes time to break down the problems into simpler parts, but it feels great once the solution is acquired. In my spare time, I enjoy being active; I like to play sports and exercise. I also enjoy practicing my guitar and piano skills.I believe that students have the potential to accomplish amazing things. My task as a tutor is to patiently guide and engage them so that they can improve and stay in the right track. Meaningful practice makes perfect, and students' engagement makes practice meaningful. I look forward to working with students and make their learning experience enjoyable.

College English Tutor • +41 Subjects
As an English and German educator for 6 years, I can honestly say that I love languages! I learned German fin Germany when I was on the year-long Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange program in high school. I went to Germany knowing only a few words, so I definitely know language learning frustrations first-hand. I kept working at it, studied abroad again at the University of Bonn, and earned my Bachelor's degree in German! I was able to apply these skills as an educator when I taught English in Austrian high schools for two years. I have worked with K-adult learners, and I hope to be meeting you soon! Thanks/Danke!

I recently graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a B.S. in Mathematics. From an early age I always loved math and, unlike many of my classmates, took a great pleasure in being introduced to new topics.I like to describe math as a sort of puzzle. Each piece builds off of something else, creating a more complete picture. It's therefore always important to have a solid grasp of the basics - to understand the previous steps - before learning each new topic. My approach to tutoring thus focuses less on memorizing formulas and more on understanding why these work and how you can arrive at them yourself.I have always enjoyed being able to help other people and my somewhat unique outlook on mathematics, coupled with my experienced mathematics background, have enabled me to assist many different people in the past. I have experience in teaching people of different ages and different needs, and I understand how to shift my approach to best reach the student. I served as an instructor at a Judo dojo that I grew up in beginning when I was 14, working with elementary school children. I additionally assisted in a 10th grade Algebra class in my sophomore year of high school, then again in a Calculus class offered at UC Berkeley following my senior year of high school. Furthermore, due to my mathematical background, I've often found myself questioned by friends, family, students, and even parents of students about different topics varying from elementary school material to Multivariable Calculus and beyond.I love mathematics and I hope to spark a similar joy in those that I teach.

I am a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley (Cal). I received my Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus on British and American Literature. I also received my Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, with an A in the Honors Program. My program in philosophy was an advanced interdisciplinary program, requiring me to specialize in logic and the methodology of science; as such, I intensively studied:- the foundations of mathematics, including set theory, recursion theory, model theory, and theory of proofs,- philosophical logic, including modal logic,- philosophy of mathematics,- logic in computer science and artificial intelligence,- theory of computational complexity,- history of logic,as well as other areas of research with heavy reliance on formal methods, such as general algebra, tensor calculus, non-standard analysis, decision theory, game theory, probability, philosophy of language, and philosophy of science. I received a score of 170 on my GRE Quantitative (i.e., Math) Section. I have tutored over a hundred students in both K-12 as well as college-level mathematics, from introductory algebra to test prep in advanced Calculus.I also hold a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, for which my concentrations are English and American Literature, Composition and Creative Writing. As a former Residential Life Tutor in World Literature and Composition at U.C. Berkeley, I have extensive knowledge of all periods of literature. I have also taught courses addressing a vast array of literary/philosophical movements.During my time as an Instructional Assistant in English at American River College, I displayed impeccable organizational skills and flexibility, thereby allowing me to manage a full course load whenever necessary. Throughout my academic and corporate career, I consistently demonstrated my ability to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and with a variety of learning styles. By utilizing pedagogical approaches that address varied learning preferences, I made abstract concepts fun and understandable. I especially enjoy helping students to cultivate a deep love of, and appreciation for, literature through various state-of-the-art teaching strategies.Ultimately, I am a passionate learner for life. Studying any subject involves both student and instructor in confidence-building conversations about information which students may wish to understand, intellectually as well as emotionally. I am, therefore, a proponent of non-confrontational learning and use a variety of methods to not only encourage discussion on the issues a course presents my student but also instil the kind of confidence a student requires to return to class with confidence as well as augmented knowledge. Tutoring, consequently, allows me to fulfil what I believe to be a fundamental responsibility of a democratic educational system: to communicate information while also building character and confidence so a student is empowered to make informed decisions regarding her or his intellectual and emotional well-being.
