I have been tutoring since high school, when I was selected for a pilot program, through which Junior and Senior students were paired with lower classmates to help improve their writing skills. Afterward, in college, I helped run an after school program for middle school children in downtown Los Angeles.In 2013 I graduated from UCLA with a major in English literature and minors in both French and Latin. I now work as an instructor for children with developmental disorders, using applied behavioral analysis therapy to decrease their maladaptive behaviors and increase behaviors that will help them to be successful in life. I love my job and working with children of all ages and will soon be applying to a Masters of Science program in clinical psychology.My past experience and current work have taught me that any student can learn any material no matter what her environmental, social, medical or academic background. In fact, my philosophy is to evaluate all of these factors and use them to determine the student’s strengths so that I can tailor my teaching to her learning style. This method works fantastically with my current students, many of whom have significant barriers to overcome beyond academics.

I also edit and tutor writing composition for individual clients in middle school and high school using APA and MLA formats, focusing on good research methods, proper citing, and correct bibliography and reference pages. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Math, and test prep. I've always felt a great joy when my students experience their "aha" moment. They have just received something that belongs to them for the rest of their lives - knowledge. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be the key to a high quality of life; and, I try to impart this appreciation to my students by being a good role model, since I am also a student. From a young age he has been inspired by mentors, teachers, Caltech, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the nearby Griffith Observatory to continuously study the stars. Eventually he wishes to pursue a PhD in Astrophysics, hoping to advance the knowledge for all humanity. During his undergraduate career he spent most of his afternoons tutoring and assisting teachers at an Elementary school in Malibu focusing primarily on math and science.Another passion of his is volunteering for the YMCA. He has been a summer camp counselor/director for the past 7 years, and just recently became an advisor with the youth government program aimed to develop public speaking/debate skills of high school students. Through his volunteer work he has gained a great appreciation for leading the lives of youth in any capacity he can. In his free time he is a devoted hometown fan of the UCLA Bruins, Dodgers, and Lakers.

I have just received my BS degree in Biological Science at California State University, Fullerton. While I was there, I worked as a tutor for chemistry, biology, and physics. During my experience as a tutor, I learned how to address my student's needs to quickly adjust my explanation so that my student would understand. To improve myself, I attended work shops to learn more about tutoring and logged my progress in my journal. I still have things to learn, but that is what makes tutoring so enjoyable. Each session is different from one another and has its own unique challenges so that I can continue to learn and be a good tutor. Aside from my on-campus tutoring, I also tutored high school students in chemistry and physics. There are differences between high school and college students, but one thing I do find in common is that when we solve a problem together, we both get this feeling of accomplishment.Aside from tutoring, I enjoy hiking, playing tennis, and biking. Those are my latest hobbies at the moment. Other things I have done are football, rugby, wrestling, and basketball. On my lazier days, I will go play video games or rent a movie and enjoy a good laugh. Eating is always another enjoyable choice as well.
