Currently, I attend Victor Senior High and will begin my education at Tulane University in the fall, studying both biomedical engineering and computer science. My past experiences tutoring both younger students and peers allow me to develop a unique approach to help students facing any type of challenge in their subject area. I personally enjoy tutoring math and science, and they have both become passions that I will continue to pursue in my education. I believe a strong foundation in both areas is fundamental in scholastic success, so I often break down subjects to their roots in order to help a student succeed from the ground level up to most advanced topics.Additionally, I enjoy tutoring ACT/SAT preparation, because I believe the right foundation and study tactics can make all the difference in performance on both of these exams, ideally saving students hours of studying material that may be repetitive or unnecessary. My tutoring style is very flexible, as I aim to discover how each student learns and cater to their unique style. I'm always up for the challenge of changing my methods of instruction and breaking down topics to foster a deeper understanding of a subject. On a different note, I generally spend my spare time playing lacrosse or running outdoors when possible. I also play the violin with a school quartet, and teach lessons to beginning students working through the Suzuki program.

My previous tutoring experience comes from tutoring students at my high school and at the Gideon Math and Reading Center. I often taught math topics that students were not able to understand or specific problems. The math topics were usually geometry or algebra 2 questions/concepts. I also taught ACT and PSAT concepts to students. I also often helped my friends and my sister with difficult math homework problems that were assigned. Math is my strong suit and therefore, I am most comfortable teaching these subjects well. However, in regards to sciences or English, I am knowledgeable in these subject areas as well.

As I lay on a large rock across from delicate arch with seventeen other high school students, I contemplated the rest of my life. On that night, I decided that I wanted to study the earth and discover its history. During sophomore year of high school, I was presented with an opportunity to take a three-week summer earth science class, called Summer Earth Studies, which would survey the western U.S. using the earth as its textbook. That trip changed my life, as I realized that I wanted to study the earth and use inquiry-based learning methods to help every student learn. For the last two years, I have been teaching middle school science at Brandon Hall School in Sandy Springs. This has been a wonderful experience allowing me to challenge myself in many ways including interpersonally, curriculum and educational design, time management, and leadership. Brandon Hall is an international and local school with both day and boarding students allowing the faculty and students to interact with a wealth of diverse individuals on a daily basis. As a result of this working and living environment, I have learned how to talk to people from many walks of life from different cultures, backgrounds, ages, and influence. Teaching middle school has been a gigantic challenge calling on my problem solving skills and ingenuity every day to plan and execute lessons, deal with problems as they arise during these lessons, maintain decorum and a positive attitude during difficult days and with challenging students, and then reflect on the process and assess what succeeded and what needs to be changed during the next day, week, or month to allow both my students and I to succeed. This experience has prepared me to take on the next challenge with the skills to help any student succeed.

I am a rising senior at Georgia State University studying poetry and religions. I have an extensive background in writing that includes long essays and creative pieces. I also grew up speaking some Spanish at home, as well as taking over ten years of Spanish classes in school. I hope to become totally fluent someday, so I sharpen my skills with DuoLingo daily.Writing is my true passion, and my goal is to help empower others to be able to use this skill. I firmly believe that every person can develop a writing style that works for them, and I hope to help clients gain the knowledge and confidence they need to communicate their ideas effectively whether they are working on a research paper or a piece of fiction. A lot of people I know have admitted, at some point, to being flat-out scared of writing. Good communication through writing is a nuanced skill, but with patience and practice it can become second-nature to anyone!I'm currently the Poetry Editor at Underground, GSU's undergraduate art and literary journal. I have lived in the Chamblee-Tucker area my whole life, and my hobbies include writing poems, reading, drawing, playing bass, and playing rec roller derby. My favorite author is James Baldwin.

I am a graduate of Columbus State University located in Columbus, GA. I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Secondary Education Certified. Prior to graduation, I worked with children from grades 5th- 12th. Through my UTeach Program, I was able to student teach at Spencer High School where I taught 9th-12th graders in various math classes such as Geometry, Algebra 2, and AP Calculus. I have received CPR certification, planned project-based lesson plans, assist students with their projects and classwork, and held after-school tutorials for many students. I have a passion for teaching and tutoring mathematics. During these times, I have made many great student-teacher connections with the students, reached out to students in need, and became another support factor for those students, which is what I intend to do with Varsity Tutors. In the past, I have taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade math, Algebra, Algebra 2, and Foundations of Algebra. I am currently a Geometry High School Teacher. I am highly dedicated to tutoring because I believe I can help others understand mathematics by scaffolding one's learning, creating hands on activities, use guided learning, and providing effective review study methods. Although math is my favorite subject, I love to tutor Algebra. I love how Algebra is all about steps and computation, which allows me to help others understand by using steps and procedures. Outside of math, I also love to cook, dance, travel, spend time with my family, and health and fitness.
