I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. I went to a great, small Charter school that allowed me to be involved in tons of activities: Art Club, Latin Club, Newspaper Editor, Mock Trial, Speech & Debate, Model U.N., Prom Committee, Volleyball, Church Choir and Yearbook Committee. In addition, I was very involved in my community serving as a youth commissioner for the City of Phoenix Human Relations Commission that sought to right all injustices and support under-represented communities in the Valley. I also served as a Youth Ambassador to Taipei, Taiwan and participated in an exchange/hosting experience. Thanks to my education, I scored well on the PSAT and became a National Merit Scholar. In 2007, I graduated high school and was offered a full-tuition scholarship to Texas A&M University.After a summer studying in Tuscany, Italy, I started my four year undergraduate career at A&M. I have a Bachelor's in French, having studied abroad in Normandy. While at University, I was a Teaching Assistant for French 101 classes, leading oral laboratory classes twice a week, grading all homework and offering additional private tutoring for struggling students. I also have a minor in Art & Architectural History- my favorite period is over-the-top Rococo shortly followed by more austere Ancient Greek architecture. I've taught ESL in France for the past three summers as well as full-time after graduation. While in France, I held private tutoring for a 5th grader, a high school senior and a conversation group for 50+. I've tutored children as young as 5, middle and high school students, advanced university students and adults.I love the French language and culture so much and would love to help encourage you, too! I've also got a strong background in European History, and have done lots of work helping students perfect their English essays.

I am a current PhD candidate in experimental geophysics at MIT. I have successfully tutored dozens of students for the GRE; these students report not only higher scores but deeper understanding of the material, even in areas they have struggled with for years. Many of my students have not taken relevant quantitative courses for years and have forgotten much of their fundamental math skills, but after working with me for a short time, they are able to achieve great GRE quantitative scores. Students also enjoy my approach to the verbal section, where we work on decoding the questions and narrowing answer choices based on the type of question. I focus on a strong understanding of the concepts being tested as well as on test-taking skills. After working together, all of my students feel more comfortable entering the exam and sure of their own abilities, and nearly all of my students end up meeting or exceeding their original score goals.

I received an ordination in ministry in 2013 and am currently working towards a degree in Christian Worship at Malone University which includes Theology, Hermeneutics, Team Building, Spiritual Formation, and Pastoral Counseling. I started my college career studying Psychology at Kent State University in 1999. My tutoring experience includes working as an online writing tutor and beginner Biblical Greek tutor.I have also led teams of younger students for Community Worship at Malone University where I led a team of 8 and mentored an understudy in Worship and leading Worship.My philosophy is to help teach and lead the student to their own discovery and understanding of a subject or problem or written work.When I am not tutoring, I like to write, read, refurbish furniture, decorate, cook and host company, go horseback riding, sing, and spend time quality time with those close to me.

My goal is to work with students so that they believe can succeed and be proud of themselves. I want students in New York to feel free amidst the overwhelming expectations to get into college. I will work with the student so that we both feel stimulated by a difficult subject. As a current acting student, I understand now more than ever that true learning is being able to make mistakes and learn from them. I am a natural born teacher and was frequently the individual my peers turned to when struggling with classroom material. I have always found joy when a student reaches the 'aha' moment of understanding something they struggle with.I received my BS in Environmental Biology from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, where I tutored General Chemistry and was a TA for Dendrology. In addition, I was always a year ahead in my math in high school, taking the honors classes and I also received a 5 on my AP Calculus AB exam.I mainly tutor Math and Science, including Algebra and Biology. There are two main components to my tutoring style that help students understand and remember material:1. I try to break down concepts and transform them into something more relatable to the student. By replacing unfamiliar jargon with familiar subjects, I find it easiest to understand more difficult concepts or processes.2. Practice! Nothing beats the tried and true repetition. This helps fine tune procedures and sheds light on areas students struggle with, allowing me to reiterate or re-explain tougher material.In addition, I love to cook, dance, practice yoga, and dabble in nature photography!

I've tutored people who were native speakers of French, Spanish, German, and Hungarian, among European languages; and of Japanese, Korean, and Chinese, among Asian languages.And, actually, tutoring for SAT Prep and helping people improve their grades in high school English is not so different from that. When I do that kind of tutoring, I emphasize features of the very complicated English verb system such as colloquial phrasal verbs and their more formal equivalents ("to go back"/"to return").Of course, every student is different, and each teaching situation is different, so I bring to each session a prepared lesson that both reviews the previous lesson and works on new problems and ideas.
