Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student got into more complex stories. He told the stories in Chinese, and I corrected or suggested different ways of speaking. At the end I told him a story in Chinese, and explained the choices of words I made."
"We began to study colors today, writing them and discussing stroke order. These words were written on a Hanzi grid for further practice, and they will be reviewed next session. We also discussed the purpose of Hanzi grids and the student's past experiences learning Chinese. Next session, we will focus on sentence structure (i.e., if...then) and colors."
"We went over greetings and learned question words, pronouns, and demonstrative pronouns. I'm glad to see the student get the hang of counting numbers real quick. Please note the pronunciations of "zh," "r," "j," "x," and "g." Thanks for your passion for learning Mandarin and readiness to work!"
"In this, our second session, we covered the preterit past tense and how to use them in question and answer sentences. The homework assignment used the concept of the impersonal se, so we discussed the use of that construct. I thought the session went well. I would like to review sentences about weather and time."
"In today's lesson, we covered past tenses of verbs. I created a list of verbs and their past tenses for the student and provided examples on how to use them in sentences. Together with vocabulary we have previously worked on, we were able to create sentences in past tenses and we also reviewed future tenses using the structure I have taught her. With daily practice, I believe she will be able to communicate effectively with me and her Spanish speaking community just fine. She shows much interest in the subject, as well. I believe if she puts effort into studying our past tenses, she will be able to make greater progress at a more rapid pace. I have also told her that we will be working on past tenses together this week to create more dialog and conversation. Our goal for this week is to learn how to conjugate verbs in their future and past tenses."
"Since the last session, the student told me that she spent most of her study time on reviewing lesson 3, therefore didn't get a chance to review lesson 4. Lesson 3 has a lot of new vocabularies, and in today's session, she was able to write out most of the vocabularies. She also did a good job doing sentence translation and pronunciation. For the second half of today's session, we reviewed lesson 4, dialogue 1 in depth. We practiced a lot of speaking, and wrote out all the new vocabularies. For the weekend, she is going to review lesson 4. Next session will partly be contributed to practical conversation skills when she's traveling in China."
