How can Reading tutoring help you?

If your little one is struggling in his or her reading class, you may want to consider contacting Varsity Tutors to try to help you find an expert reading tutor in San Francisco who may work with your child based on his or her current skill level and learning preferences. There are seven essential skills of good readers. These include being able to make connections with what is being read, asking questions about the material being read, using images and mental images to support an understanding of the reading, making references based on the material, determining the importance of the information being read, summarizing the information, and being able to monitor an understanding of what is being read. If your child is struggling with any of these skills, individualized reading tutoring in San Francisco, CA, may be of a great benefit to both you and your youngster.

Understanding vocabulary, summarizing, rhyming, understanding contractions, and comprehending figurative language are common battles that young children face when trying to succeed in their reading classes. With the help of a professional and private reading tutor in San Francisco, CA, your youngster may be able to overcome most, if not all, of their reading challenges. Working with a private reading tutor has many advantages. Your child's tutor may potentially help to make sure that study sessions are interesting and personalized toward your little one's strengths, weaknesses, and personal interests and hobbies. This allows for studying sessions to remain interesting and insightful for children. In turn, children tend to be a bit more excited about learning new material. A private reading tutor may allow for immediate feedback and assistance. This allows for your child to have his or her mistakes corrected quickly, in hopes that the same mistakes are not repeated. Private reading tutoring also increases confidence and self-esteem in children. Once a child grasps and fully comprehends a concept they've been struggling with, they begin to feel more self-assured and positive about reading in general.

Reading Tutoring review by Sherry in San Francisco-Bay Area, CA
The student finished reading the biography of Daniel Boone. We discussed the book, covering story, characters, setting, and event sequence. He started reading the book "I Survived Hurricane Katrina 2005". We alternated reading aloud. He is getting much better at pronouncing unfamiliar words. He is also learning how to deduce the definition of words he has not seen through sentence or paragraph context. He also read a science essay, "Light". He answered factual multiple choice questions accurately. We discussed the written questions. He will complete the written question for "Light" and read the next two chapters in "I Survived" for homework.

Reading Tutoring review by Kylie in San Francisco-Bay Area, CA
The student and I began the lesson by reviewing his writing assignment from the previous class. During our time away, he has forgotten some important lessons about topic sentences and main idea, so we reviewed those. We continued to work in the reading and writing activity books assigned by his mother, and then concluded the lesson reading a chapter from Melvin Beederman.

Reading Tutoring review by Alexis in San Francisco-Bay Area, CA
Today, the student remembered many of the words we had gone over the last few days by sight. She displayed more confidence in her abilities as a reader, which was great to see. We worked on specific word sounds, including "in" "en" and "it." Her pronunciation of words with these sounds definitely improved after going over them individually.

After that, the student and I worked on syllables, prefixes, and suffixes in order to decode complex words. Finally, the student and I read and then answered questions about a nonfiction passage with both short answer and multiple choice questions.

Reading Tutoring review by Emily in San Francisco-Bay Area, CA
During today's session, we started off doing simple addition and mental math. The student has been improving, but she still stumbles every now and then, which is to be expected. Afterward, we had a social science activity where she had to draw a map of her garden. To end the session, we had a writing practice where she had to write her vocabulary words three times each, and a vocabulary quiz. During our breaks, we had story time. She picked a book of her choice, and we read through it while I asked her questions on what she would think would happen, the meaning of certain words, the moral to the story, etc.
