AP English Language and Composition Tutor • +42 Subjects

I am an Allegheny College graduate with BAs in both French and History and two years worth of teaching experience. I am very passionate about languages and history, but also about teaching in general; after working as a French Teacher's Assistant at Allegheny, volunteering in elementary school, and teaching university-level English in France, I have discovered how much I love helping others learn. As a liberal arts college graduate (my classes at Allegheny consisted of around 15 students each) I have firsthand experience getting individual, customized instruction directly from a teacher, so I know how valuable that attention is. I will bring passion, patience, and understanding to each tutoring session in order to attain optimal results. I look forward to meeting you!

I am a graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelors of Arts in English and Philosophy. At Notre Dame, I worked as a tutor at the University Writing Center, helping both undergraduate and graduate students with their writing. I also tutored local middle school students in reading and writing to prepare them for standardized tests. I had the opportunity to live in Spain for 6 months, where I became fluent in Spanish and developed a love for tutoring English language learners. Since graduation, I have worked with students at Midtown Educational Foundation and other extracurricular programs, and am currently pursuing a Masters of Arts in Teaching English. I tutor a wide range of subjects, although I am most passionate about English, Spanish, and Writing. I am an advocate of student-centered tutoring, and my goal is to support and guide students so that they have the satisfaction and confidence of knowing how to think through a problem and reach the correct answer. In my free time, I love to bake, read, play soccer, and act in plays.

My name is Erica and I am a recent graduate of Harvard College, graduating with a degree of High Honors in the History of Science. I am also anticipating entering dental school this coming Fall at Columbia College of Dental Medicine. In this interim year, I would love the opportunity to continue tutoring -- I have tutored all throughout college in a multitude of subjects, and this rewarding experience has not only helped the students, but has also allowed me the chance to myself better learn how to communicate with students of all ages and backgrounds. While I did graduate with a degree in history, I am also very comfortable tutoring Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, as I have taken all these courses at Harvard as pre-requsities for Dental School. I have also taken the SAT, DAT, MCAT, and GRE, and am more than willing to help tutor anyone preparing for these exams -- as someone who has taken them not too long ago, I myself remember the stress that comes with standardized testing, and would love the chance to help find with you the best way possible to guide your way through it.I am very excited to be a part of your team, and I hope to meet you soon!

ACT Prep Tutor • +36 Subjects

I graduated from Union University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Philosophy. I began tutoring in high school when I led an ACT prep class for a group of homeschooled students. I discovered that I loved helping people grasp new concepts and find creative ways of approaching material they may have found challenging. In college, I volunteered as a Literature and English tutor in the campus tutoring center for two years. My main responsibility was reading and critiquing other students' papers. I gave feedback about content, structure, and grammar. I loved helping people find their voice and discover what they were excited to write about - I found that often students were intimidated by writing, but when I asked questions and listened, they quickly realized they had something they wanted to say and gained confidence in their writing. I gained more tutoring experience after college working for ScorePlus Academics for over a year and a half. I worked with all ages, but particularly high school students studying for college admissions tests. I taught group classes and tutored individuals for the ACT, PSAT, SAT, and GRE. My primary focus was on the ACT - I taught every section of the test, and by the time I left ScorePlus I knew the ACT backward and forward. I enjoyed helping students grasp the content, but the most fun part of tutoring was finding tips and creative approaches to the test that fit the individual student I was working with. I loved watching students gradually discover that they could succeed at the material we were covering. As people gained confidence, their frustration disappeared and they were able to use the tools they already had to learn material and take the test strategically. I would love to help you reach your academic goals!

As the child of educators and a member of a big family, learning new things and then passing down that knowledge has been a way of life for me. My older siblings would teach me new concepts and I'd share concepts I'd mastered with my younger siblings (all under the "professional supervision" of our parents of course).I began working with peers when I was 13 and continued throughout high school. My "professional" tutoring career began in college at NYU. I was an America Reads/America Counts tutor working directly with students and their homeroom teachers to identify and rectify learning issues before they seriously impacted a students progress. After college I worked as a personal math and English tutor for the Department of Education. My students ranged in age from 8-19, I specialized in SAT English prep. Most recently I was a Computer Instructor/Multi-media Instructor for the Madison Square Boys and Girls Club. There I instructed ages 6-18 in basic computer literacy and helped them produce work for the national Boys and Girls Club Digital Arts Festival. We created short films, clay animation, music, and digital collage that won 5 first place national awards. It remains one of the most rewarding experiences I have had to date.My motto when it comes to learning is: There are no stupid questions! I look forward to embarking on this learning odyssey with you!
